Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) subsystem for x86 architectures. This flaw allows a local user to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing the host kernel. When a virtual processor leaves System Management Mode (SMM), an unhandled failure can leave the memory management unit (MMU) state desynchronized. Subsequent memory page fault processing under this inconsistent state triggers a null-pointer dereference, resulting in a system crash.
