Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's generic radix tree implementation. An integer overflow occurs when iterating over a radix tree with large values, such as wide-range file identifiers, due to missing boundary checks during iterator progression. A local authenticated user could trigger this vulnerability to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing the system.
Statement
This vulnerability is evaluated with a Low severity rating for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because successful exploitation demands local authenticated access and edge-case traversals across exceptionally wide 64-bit identifier ranges. In typical enterprise environments, unprivileged users have limited influence over the internal radix tree lookups that trigger this boundary condition. The potential impact is strictly confined to a system crash, with no risk to data integrity or confidentiality.
CVSS score applicability
