Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Intel i915 graphics driver. When iterating through graphics execution contexts during performance monitoring operations, a race condition can occur if a context is closed and removed from the active list before all references to it are released. A local user could exploit this flaw to cause a general protection fault, resulting in a kernel crash and Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low impact because it requires local access on systems equipped with Intel graphics hardware, and triggering the race condition results solely in a kernel panic and denial of service without compromising data confidentiality or system integrity. Typical Red Hat Enterprise Linux server deployments do not utilize Intel integrated graphics or graphical execution contexts, greatly limiting exposure in production environments. Furthermore, triggering the condition requires local privileges to access Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) performance profiling interfaces.
