Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Universal Disk Format (UDF) filesystem. When handling preallocation extents, if an extent is the first in an extent block, the code can corrupt the extent tree header. This corruption could lead to a denial of service (DoS) due to filesystem instability.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, prevent the udf kernel module from loading by blacklisting it. This can be achieved by creating a configuration file:
echo "blacklist udf" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/udf-blacklist.conf
After creating the file, regenerate the initramfs and reboot the system for the changes to take effect. This may impact systems that rely on the UDF filesystem for mounting media.
