Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
NFSv4/pnfs: Fix a use-after-free bug in open
If someone cancels the open RPC call, then we must not try to free either the open slot or the layoutget operation arguments, since they are likely still in use by the hung RPC call.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated Moderate rather than Important because successful exploitation requires local user privileges, an active pNFS mount, and precise timing to cancel a pending file open operation. Under standard enterprise deployments, triggering this memory reclamation race requires an interrupted RPC exchange with an NFSv4 server and is difficult to induce reliably. Supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases do not incorporate the affected upstream backports and are not vulnerable.
