Description
A flaw was found in openssl. An out-of-bounds read can occur within the X509VerifyParamRef::set_host function when processing an empty string. A local attacker can trigger this condition by providing a specially crafted input, resulting in a potential information leak.
Statement
The assigned Moderate severity is based on the fact that while the vulnerability can be triggered without authentication, it requires a specific, less common user interaction (providing an empty string for a hostname). The direct impact is limited to information disclosure and does not lead to arbitrary code execution or a denial of service.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
