Description
A null pointer dereference flaw was found in the hugetlbfs_fill_super function in the Linux kernel hugetlbfs (HugeTLB pages) functionality. This issue may allow a local user to crash the system or potentially escalate their privileges on the system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact on Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation requires local access and elevated privileges to invoke filesystem reconfiguration interfaces, with the primary consequence being a system crash (denial of service). Standard unprivileged accounts without permissions to configure filesystems cannot trigger this condition under typical deployment profiles. While HugeTLB support is compiled into enterprise kernels, successful exploitation cannot be achieved remotely or without direct access to manipulate filesystem parameters.
CVSS score applicability
