Description
A flaw was found in the wilc1000 wireless driver in the Linux kernel. This flaw allows a local user with administrative privileges to trigger a use-after-free condition when unbinding the driver or cleaning up network interfaces. During cleanup, the driver accesses previously freed memory belonging to a virtual interface object while traversing the interface list. Successful exploitation could result in a system crash leading to a Denial of Service (DoS) or potentially arbitrary code execution.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low severity for Red Hat because exploiting it requires local administrative privileges and specialized Microchip WILC1000 hardware that is not commonly used in enterprise environments. Additionally, the affected driver code is not built or enabled in supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernels, leaving default enterprise deployments unaffected. Where present, any disruption is confined to a local denial of service when unbinding or tearing down wireless interfaces.
