Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's clock (clk) subsystem. A local user could cause a Denial of Service (DoS) when concurrent operations lead to a system hang. The issue arises during the disabling of unused clocks, where holding the clock preparation lock while executing runtime power management (PM) tasks creates a circular lock dependency with device resume routines. This deadlock causes kernel tasks to block indefinitely, rendering the system unresponsive.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because triggering the deadlock requires specific hardware architectures and power management topologies, typically seen in specialized ARM SoCs rather than standard enterprise server environments. The issue stems from a timing window during system initialization where clock management operations collide with device probing routines. Consequently, standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux server and cloud deployments are rarely exposed, and unprivileged users cannot reliably trigger this condition during normal runtime.
