Description
A flaw was found in the md/dm-raid subsystem in the Linux kernel. If md_reap_sync_thread() is called directly, it could lead to potential misuse or system instability.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because it requires local access to interact with the device-mapper subsystem, where improper synchronization during sync thread reaping can lead to a denial of service via kernel deadlock or crash, without impacting confidentiality or integrity. In typical Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, triggering this issue requires an active dm-raid device configuration and administrative privileges to issue device-mapper messages. Systems that do not utilize RAID targets via device-mapper are unaffected by this condition during routine operations.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
