Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's lpfc driver within the SCSI subsystem. A local privileged user could cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by triggering a kernel deadlock. This issue occurs because the driver fails to release an internal lock before invoking a worker wake-up function, which attempts to acquire the same lock and causes the system to hang.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because it requires local access on systems equipped with Emulex Fibre Channel hardware and is confined to a local denial of service, without impacting data confidentiality or integrity. In typical Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments, the affected driver is only utilized when Emulex LightPulse host bus adapters are present and active. Consequently, hosts without this specialized storage hardware or installations where the driver module is not loaded remain unaffected.
