Description
A flaw was found in the net/http package of the Golang standard library. The HTTP client drops sensitive headers after following a cross-domain redirect. For example, a request to a.com/ containing an Authorization header redirected to b.com/ will not send that header to b.com. However, the sensitive headers would be restored if the client received a subsequent same-domain redirect. For example, a chain of redirects from a.com/, to b.com/1, and finally to b.com/2 would incorrectly send the Authorization header to b.com/2.
Statement
Moderate impact: Red Hat products that include the affected golang net/http client are affected by a credential-disclosure flaw in HTTP redirect handling. When a client request with a sensitive header such as Authorization is redirected from one domain to another and then to a same-domain URL, the client can incorrectly restore and send that header to the final destination, potentially exposing credentials and other sensitive information. The current Red Hat scope contains affected entries across Red Hat Enterprise Linux, OpenShift Container Platform, and other Red Hat products and components; some affect records have a current NOTAFFECTED resolution, indicating those specific product/version records are not affected, but the record provides no technical justification for why. For affected entries marked DELEGATED, a fix is being pursued by the responsible product teams. For entries marked DEFER, the record does not establish a product-specific reason for deferral; the residual risk is that applications using the affected net/http client can still disclose sensitive headers through this redirect sequence. Red Hat's CVSS is 5.9 Moderate (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N), compared with CISA's 6.1 Moderate, reflecting Red Hat's higher attack-complexity and unchanged-scope assessment and confidentiality-only impact.
