Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's rtw88 USB Wi-Fi driver. A NULL pointer dereference can occur in the rtw_rx_fill_rx_status function because the initialization routine may process USB replies before the device is fully set up. This could allow a local attacker to cause a denial of service by triggering the uninitialized access.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, prevent the rtw88 kernel module from loading by blacklisting it. Create a file such as /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-rtw88.conf with the following content:
blacklist rtw88
After creating the file, regenerate the initramfs and reboot the system for the changes to take effect. This mitigation will disable functionality provided by the rtw88 driver, which may include Wi-Fi connectivity if your system relies on this hardware.
