Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's JFS filesystem. Out-of-bounds vulnerabilities exist in the dbNextAG() and diAlloc() functions due to insufficient bounds checks. This can occur when processing a malformed or "polluted" image, leading to internal data structures exceeding their allocated memory limits. A local attacker could exploit this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or potentially disclose sensitive information.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, prevent the jfs kernel module from loading by blacklisting it. Create a file named /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-jfs.conf with the following content:
install jfs /bin/true
After creating the file, regenerate the initramfs and reboot the system for the changes to take effect. This action may impact systems that rely on the JFS filesystem.
