Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Multipath TCP (MPTCP) implementation. This vulnerability occurs when handling large Path Maximum Transmission Unit (PMTU) transmissions, which can lead to Data Sequence Number (DSS) corruption. A remote attacker could exploit this flaw by sending specially crafted network packets, potentially causing a denial of service or data integrity issues within the TCP connection.
Statement
This seems to be a corruption and availability in the TCP protocol and its connection.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, disable Multipath TCP (MPTCP) if it is not actively used. MPTCP can be disabled by setting the net.mptcp.enabled sysctl to 0.
sysctl -w net.mptcp.enabled=0
To make this change persistent across reboots, add the following line to a file in /etc/sysctl.d/, for example, /etc/sysctl.d/99-disable-mptcp.conf:
net.mptcp.enabled = 0
After modifying the sysctl configuration file, apply the changes by running sysctl --system. A system reboot may be required for the changes to take full effect.
