Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's drm/amd graphics driver. If a system's BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) provides malformed data in response to an ATIF (AMD Thermal and Interrupt Function) ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) method call, it can lead to a NULL pointer dereference. This vulnerability could allow a local attacker with low privileges to cause a system crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, the amdgpu kernel module can be prevented from loading. This can be achieved by creating a modprobe configuration file.
- Create or edit
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-amdgpu.conf:blacklist amdgpu - Rebuild the initial ramdisk:
ordracut -f -vmkinitrd -f -v /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r) - Reboot the system for the changes to take effect.
Caveat: Blacklisting the amdgpu module will disable AMD graphics functionality, potentially impacting systems that rely on it for display output or hardware acceleration.
