Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's octeon_ep driver. A local attacker could potentially trigger a memory allocation failure during network packet processing. This failure, if not properly handled, could lead to a NULL pointer dereference, resulting in a system crash and a Denial of Service (DoS).
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, prevent the octeon_ep kernel module from loading. Create a file named /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-octeon_ep.conf with the following content:
blacklist octeon_ep
install octeon_ep /bin/true
A system reboot is required for this change to take effect. This mitigation may impact network functionality if Cavium Octeon network devices are in use.
