Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Device Mapper (DM) subsystem. When a disk allocation failure occurs during device initialization, the kernel retains an error pointer instead of properly tracking the failure. A local user can trigger this cleanup path, leading to an invalid pointer dereference and a system crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
The issue is that possible Null pointer dereference if device initialization fails. The security impact is limited, because attacker cannot control it (means hard to trigger fail path during boot or during other special case of device initialization and after that hard to use Null pointer dereference for anything apart from deny of service).
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
