Description
A flaw was found in PHP's DOM and SimpleXML extensions. This vulnerability allows incorrect parsing of a redirected HTTP resource via improper content-type header handling.
Statement
Moderate impact: Red Hat Enterprise Linux is affected by a PHP flaw in the DOM and SimpleXML extensions. When an application requests an HTTP resource that performs a redirect, the wrong Content-Type header is used to determine the character set, which can cause the resulting document to be parsed incorrectly or allow validations to be bypassed. The affected RHEL entries include streams with delegated resolution, for which a fix is being pursued; RHEL entries marked not affected remain outside the affected scope. Red Hat In-Vehicle OS entries are affected with resolution deferred, so the residual risk is that redirected HTTP resources processed by DOM or SimpleXML may still be parsed incorrectly or bypass validations. Fedora 40 and Fedora 41 are not affected because inline mitigations already exist. Red Hat rates the issue Low (CVSS 3.7) rather than the external Moderate ratings because its assessment assigns high attack complexity and limited confidentiality impact.
