Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Hisilicon Network Subsystem (hns3) driver. This issue can result in a Denial of Service (DoS) due to a resource leak during Precision Time Protocol (PTP) clock initialization. When an error occurs while retrieving clock cycles, the driver returns directly without unregistering and releasing the allocated clock resources. A local user with administrative privileges can trigger this condition to leak memory and exhaust system resources.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having a Low severity because it requires specific HiSilicon network hardware and local administrative privileges to trigger the failure path. The issue is confined to an unhandled error condition during Precision Time Protocol clock initialization in the hns3 driver, leading to unreleased resources. Systems without this specific network hardware, or environments where privileged interface configuration is restricted, are not exposed to this resource leak.
