Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A local user could cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by triggering improper cache invalidation during memory page table removal on x86 architectures. When collapsing certain memory mappings, the kernel fails to correctly invalidate Translation Lookaside Buffer (TLB) entries across processors. This flaw could lead to stale memory translations, resulting in system instability or crashes.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having Low severity for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation requires local user access and the affected TLB flush path is restricted to narrow synchronization scenarios involving lazy TLB tracking or paravirtualized guests. Under typical deployments, triggering the synchronization inconsistency requires specific memory collapse conditions that carry minimal risk beyond potential system instability. Furthermore, this issue is confined to x86-based environments and does not impact other architectures supported by Red Hat.
