Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
platform/x86/amd: pmf: Use device managed allocations
If setting up smart PC fails for any reason then this can lead to a double free when unloading amd-pmf. This is because dev->buf was freed but never set to NULL and is again freed in amd_pmf_remove().
To avoid subtle allocation bugs in failures leading to a double free change all allocations into device managed allocations.
Statement
This vulnerability does not affect supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases because the susceptible AMD Platform Management Framework code was never introduced into Red Hat kernels. The underlying flaw is restricted to local environments on systems running newer upstream kernels with specific AMD hardware configurations. Under those upstream conditions, an initialization failure during smart PC setup could result in kernel memory corruption or a denial of service when unloading the driver.
Mitigation
No mitigation is specified in collected source.
