Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition. While the vulnerability is in Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition accessible data. Note: This vulnerability applies to Java deployments, typically in clients running sandboxed Java Web Start applications or sandboxed Java applets, that load and run untrusted code (e.g., code that comes from the internet) and rely on the Java sandbox for security. This vulnerability does not apply to Java deployments, typically in servers, that load and run only trusted code (e.g., code installed by an administrator). Statement
A flaw was found in the OpenJDK HTTP client's handling of headers when following redirects. The HTTP client leaks sensitive information when it is redirected to a different domain, which can allow an unauthenticated remote attacker with network access to gain unauthorized access to sensitive data, resulting in a confidentiality impact. Red Hat rates this issue as IMPORTANT with a CVSS 3.1 score of 8.6, matching the upstream Oracle severity. According to the upstream advisory, the exposure is most relevant to Java deployments that load and run untrusted code, such as clients running sandboxed Java Web Start applications or applets, while server deployments that load and run only trusted code are not affected in the same way. Within Red Hat products, the vulnerable code is present in OpenJDK 11, 17, and 21 as shipped in Red Hat Enterprise Linux and the Red Hat Build of OpenJDK, where a fix is being pursued through the delegated maintenance process. java-1.8.0-openjdk is not affected because the vulnerable code is not present in that version.
