Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Journaled File System (JFS). This vulnerability occurs when a directory's link count (nlink) reaches its maximum value and a rename operation is performed on a child directory. This can cause the link count to wrap around, leading to an nlink overflow. The overflow can trigger warnings and potentially impact file system stability or data integrity.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate because exploitation requires local access to a system with an active JFS filesystem and can lead to a denial of service through kernel warnings or filesystem instability, without granting unauthorized code execution or privilege escalation. Furthermore, the Journaled File System (JFS) is a legacy filesystem that is not supported or enabled by default in standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, significantly limiting exposure on typical installations.
