Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) subsystem, specifically within the shared memory (shmem) test module. This vulnerability occurs because the reservation lock is not properly held during vmap and vunmap operations. A local attacker could potentially exploit this flaw to trigger kernel warnings, leading to system instability or a denial of service (DoS) condition.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate because exploitation requires local access and is confined to DRM shared memory test routines, primarily leading to kernel warnings or a denial of service rather than privilege escalation or data exposure. In standard Red Hat production environments, KUnit test suites are not executed during regular system operation. Consequently, triggering this locking flaw requires local privileges and deliberate invocation of internal testing frameworks, limiting exposure on typical enterprise deployments.
