Description
A heap-based buffer overflow was found in GIMP’s GIF export plug-in. Exporting an image with very large width and height can cause 32-bit overflow when computing the pixel buffer size. The plug-in allocates a buffer based on the wrapped value while GEGL writes using the true image extent, rooted in integer overflow
Statement
A heap-based buffer overflow was found in GIMP when exporting to GIF. Exporting an image with extremely large dimensions can cause GIMP to allocate a buffer that is too small for the data written during export, leading to heap corruption or a crash. The user must perform a GIF export on an oversized image; a crafted small file opened for viewing is not sufficient to trigger this issue.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Do not export untrusted high-resolution images to GIF; enforce maximum width/height in batch or scripted export pipelines
