Description

A flaw was found in FreeRDP. A heap-based buffer overflow can result in a Denial of Service (DoS) when handling redirected user credentials. A malicious or compromised routing service can supply an excessively long redirected username, causing memory corruption in the command-line prompt buffer when a user enters input, ultimately crashing the client application.

Statement

This flaw is rated Moderate because a malicious or compromised RDP server can crash the FreeRDP client when ARM redirected username handling is used, causing a denial of service for the connecting user. Exploitation requires the user to initiate a connection (UI:R). Confidentiality and integrity are not impacted. Red Hat platform safeguards such as ASLR, NX, and FORTIFY_SOURCE do not remove the crash impact, so Availability remains High.

CVSS score applicability

The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.

Mitigation

Restrict FreeRDP clients to trusted RDP servers and networks.
