Description
A flaw was found in FreeRDP. When processing Remote Desktop (RD) Gateway connections using HTTP chunked transfer encoding, a malicious or compromised server can send a partial chunk header or footer followed by a clean Transport Layer Security (TLS) shutdown. This condition causes the client to process zero-byte reads in an infinite loop without advancing the stream, freezing the application and resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This flaw is rated Moderate because a malicious or compromised RDP server can crash the FreeRDP client when RD Gateway processing (infinite loop) is used, causing a denial of service for the connecting user. Exploitation requires the user to initiate a connection (UI:R). Confidentiality and integrity are not impacted. Red Hat platform safeguards such as ASLR, NX, and FORTIFY_SOURCE do not remove the crash impact, so Availability remains High.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Avoid connecting through untrusted RD Gateway hosts. Restrict FreeRDP gateway use to trusted infrastructure.
