Description
A flaw was found in FreeRDP. When processing video streams, the client does not verify that image region dimensions are valid before performing color conversion. A malicious or compromised Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) server can exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted graphics frame to a connected user. This triggers an internal assertion failure that abruptly terminates the client application, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This flaw is rated Moderate because a malicious or compromised RDP server can crash the FreeRDP client when a reachable assertion in client order parsing is used, causing a denial of service for the connecting user. Exploitation requires the user to initiate a connection (UI:R). Confidentiality and integrity are not impacted. Red Hat platform safeguards such as ASLR, NX, and FORTIFY_SOURCE do not remove the crash impact, so Availability remains High.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Restrict FreeRDP clients to trusted RDP servers and networks.
