Description
A flaw was found in Ghostscript. When processing a specially crafted TrueType font or document embedding one, an accounting error during font rendering can bypass buffer size checks, triggering a heap-based buffer overflow. A remote attacker could exploit this by enticing a victim or automated service to open the malicious content, potentially resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) crash or arbitrary code execution.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, avoid processing untrusted documents or standalone TrueType fonts with Ghostscript. If feasible, disable TrueType instruction execution within Ghostscript configurations. Consult Ghostscript documentation for specific configuration options to disable TrueType instruction execution. Running Ghostscript in a restrictive sandbox environment can also reduce the blast radius of potential exploitation.
