Description
A flaw was found in libmspack. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing a user or application to process a specially crafted KWAJ compressed file containing invalid or truncated headers. When handling these errors, the library attempts to release uninitialized memory pointers, potentially leading to memory corruption or an application crash that results in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact for Red Hat products because triggering the flaw requires an application or user to open a crafted archive, restricting the blast radius to the invoking process. In standard Red Hat deployments, libmspack is not exposed as a listening service and functions as a shared library for processing compressed files on demand. Consequently, an attacker cannot exploit this issue remotely without an intermediary service accepting and parsing untrusted KWAJ compressed streams.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
