Description

A flaw was found in perl-text-csv_xs. This flaw allows an attacker who supplies specially crafted CSV input to trigger a Denial of Service (DoS). When processing CSV data configured with bound column variables, the parser improperly releases memory references upon encountering empty rows. Subsequent access to this freed memory leads to a use-after-free condition, causing the application to crash.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation requires processing specially crafted CSV input with specific column-binding and empty-row skipping configurations, resulting primarily in an application crash. Because perl-Text-CSV_XS functions as a parsing library rather than an exposed network service, an attacker cannot trigger this condition remotely unless a consumer application accepts untrusted data. Consequently, the blast radius is confined to local denial of service affecting the execution of the consuming Perl process.

CVSS score applicability
