Description

A flaw was found in Text::CSV_XS. An attacker can cause record splitting and data tampering by supplying input containing embedded newline characters that evaluates as numeric. Because the library fails to quote fields flagged as numeric when formatting Comma-Separated Values (CSV) records, the unquoted newline terminates the row prematurely and shifts subsequent fields into an unintended separate record.

Statement

Red Hat rates this flaw as having a Moderate severity impact because it is restricted to integrity compromise within generated CSV output files, without leading to arbitrary code execution, confidentiality leaks, or denial of service. Exploitation requires an application incorporating Text::CSV_XS to process untrusted input containing newline sequences that evaluate as numeric prior to serialization. Because the defect manifests during specific data-export routines rather than directly exposing network daemons, the exposure is confined to scripts handling unvetted external input.
