Description
A flaw was found in Dulwich. This vulnerability allows an attacker to achieve arbitrary code execution by tricking a user into restoring a stash in a specially crafted Git repository. During a stash pop operation, intermediate directory symbolic links (symlinks) are followed without adequate validation, enabling files to be written outside the intended repository working directory. By overwriting internal Git hooks or other critical files, an attacker can execute arbitrary commands on the victim's system during subsequent operations.
Statement
This vulnerability has been rated as having an Important severity because successful exploitation allows writing arbitrary files outside the repository working directory, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution. Exploitation requires user interaction to perform stash operations on a maliciously crafted Git repository containing directory symlinks. In typical Red Hat deployments, automated systems and workflows do not perform stash operations on untrusted repositories, significantly limiting real-world exposure.
CVSS score applicability
