Description
A flaw was found in gcc. An attacker could cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by passing a string that is not null-terminated to the std::from_chars() function in the libstdc++ library. This issue triggers an out-of-bounds read beyond the allocated buffer, potentially leading to invalid data parsing or an application crash.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because successful exploitation requires an application built with libstdc++ to process untrusted, non-null-terminated input via std::from_chars without sufficient bounds validation. The resulting impact is confined to an application crash or inaccurate floating-point conversion, without any risk of memory corruption or arbitrary code execution. Consequently, the flaw presents minimal exposure across typical Red Hat environments unless dependent consumer applications expose this specific parsing path to unvalidated user input.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
