Description

A flaw was found in Highcharts. An attacker who controls chart series keys and data points can cause prototype pollution (unauthorized modification of base JavaScript objects) by providing dot-separated property paths. When the chart is rendered, the injected properties become accessible to all JavaScript running on the page without requiring any additional user interaction. This can disrupt application logic, corrupt data, or result in a denial of service.

Statement

Red Hat Product Security rates this vulnerability as Moderate because exploitation requires an attacker to supply maliciously crafted charting configurations to a web application, and the resulting prototype pollution is confined to the client-side browser runtime. In typical deployments, client-side graphing components do not expose backend services to direct compromise or privilege escalation. An attacker must have the ability to influence key paths and coordinate chart data points, and any secondary consequences depend entirely on how other frontend scripts interact with the modified object prototype.
