Description

A flaw was found in SQLite. This vulnerability allows an attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing the host application. By supplying a specially crafted database file or SQL query that performs a count operation over a large multi-row VALUES clause, an attacker can trigger excessive recursion during view optimization. This results in stack exhaustion when freeing internal query expressions, terminating the application process.

Statement

Red Hat rates this vulnerability as Moderate because exploitation only leads to an application crash without permitting arbitrary code execution or data modification. In standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments, SQLite is used as an embedded database where applications generally process trusted inputs and self-managed schemas. Exposure is limited to scenarios where an application explicitly evaluates untrusted SQL statements or loads untrusted external database files.
