Description
A flaw was found in Eclipse OpenJ9. A remote attacker with low privileges could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to process a specially crafted .class file containing deeply nested annotations. This could lead to a segmentation fault, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for the affected system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because exploitation requires the JVM to process an untrusted compiled Java class file, resulting in an application crash and denial of service. Under typical deployment scenarios, Java environments execute trusted application binaries rather than parsing arbitrary external bytecode. Additionally, the flaw only impacts service availability via process termination, without compromising system confidentiality or data integrity.
