Description
A flaw was found in GStreamer. This use-after-free vulnerability in the rtpsbcdepay element, specifically during the processing of Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) payload elements, allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code. The issue arises from a lack of validation for an object's existence before operations are performed on it. Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution within the context of the current process.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as an Important impact because processing a malformed network stream can lead to arbitrary code execution within the target process, although an attacker requires user interaction or an active media reception service to initiate the pipeline. Within Red Hat Enterprise Linux, GStreamer provides media decoding capabilities across desktop tools, but triggering this flaw specifically requires parsing Real-time Transport Protocol sessions that utilize the Subband Codec (SBC) depayloader. Standard server configurations and deployments that do not handle real-time streaming media or desktop audio pipelines do not actively expose the affected component.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
