Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's iwlwifi driver. This vulnerability occurs because a specific work item, mlo_scan_start_wk, is not properly canceled when a network device disconnects. This oversight can lead to a use-after-free condition, where the system attempts to access memory that has already been released. A local attacker with high privileges could potentially exploit this to cause a system crash (denial of service) or execute unauthorized code.

CVSS score applicability

The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.

Mitigation

To mitigate this issue, prevent the iwlwifi kernel module from loading by creating a modprobe configuration file. This will disable Wi-Fi functionality on the system.

Create a file named /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-iwlwifi.conf with the following content:

blacklist iwlwifi

After creating the file, a system reboot is required for the changes to take effect.
