Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's AMD GPU driver. During a hardware reset cycle, the graphics processor becomes temporarily inaccessible, yet other driver processes may attempt to access its registers concurrently. A local user able to trigger a GPU reset can cause incomplete bus transactions, resulting in a kernel panic or system hang that leads to a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because it requires local access on systems equipped with AMD GPU hardware, and the impact is restricted to a system denial of service. The issue manifests during hardware reset cycles when concurrent register access leads to uncompleted PCIe transactions, triggering a kernel panic or hang. Standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux server environments without AMD graphics hardware or without workloads that trigger GPU resets are not exposed to this risk.
