Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A local user could exploit a race condition in the TLS (Transport Layer Security) subsystem's tls_sw_cancel_work_tx() function. This race condition may allow the system to dereference a freed TLS object, potentially leading to a denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because successful exploitation requires local user access and precise timing to win a race condition during socket teardown, limiting the primary outcome to a denial of service via a kernel crash. The issue is confined to the kernel Transport Layer Security (kTLS) implementation, which is not actively engaged by standard networking workloads unless specifically requested via socket options. Default Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments do not load or expose the kTLS module unless an application explicitly configures ULP TLS.
