Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could cause a null pointer dereference in the IPv6 routing subsystem when a slave device is being un-slaved from a Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) instance. This vulnerability can lead to a system crash, resulting in a denial of service.

Statement

This flaw affects systems using VRF (Virtual Routing and Forwarding) with IPv6. The race occurs when a device is being removed from a VRF while IPv6 route lookups are in progress. The missing fallback to loopback_dev causes a NULL pointer dereference. Exploiting this requires the ability to configure VRF interfaces while traffic is flowing.
