Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A race condition in the memory management subsystem, specifically when handling page table entries, can be triggered by a local user. This can lead to a kernel bug, causing a system crash and resulting in a denial of service.
Statement
Upstream synchronized PUD walking with pudp_get() snapshots so concurrent split/refault cannot descend into torn down middle levels (scenario involved VFIO BAR pinning vs /proc numa_maps reads). Red Hat concurs this is a local availability bug in the VM walk infrastructure. Consume patched kernels; there is no clean module-level mitigation for core MM.
