Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's gfs2 filesystem. This vulnerability occurs when the gfs2_fiemap() function calls iomap_fiemap() while holding an inode glock (a global lock for filesystem operations). If the fiemap buffer is memory mapped to the same inode and accessing it triggers a page fault, it can lead to recursive glock taking. This can result in a deadlock, potentially causing a Denial of Service (DoS) for the system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because exploitation requires an authenticated local user with access to an active GFS2 volume to trigger a kernel deadlock, and it cannot be exploited remotely or result in privilege escalation. In standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments, the GFS2 cluster filesystem is not enabled or mounted by default and is restricted to specialized high-availability cluster environments. Consequently, typical enterprise installations that do not mount shared cluster filesystems are not exposed to this denial-of-service condition.
