Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's block subsystem. The biovec_phys_mergeable function, which combines physically contiguous memory segments, lacked a check to ensure these segments belonged to the same device page map (dev_pagemap). This omission could result in the incorrect identification of the page map for merged segments, potentially leading to data integrity problems or system instability.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation requires local access and depends on specialized hardware architectures utilizing multi-chunk zone device memory. Under standard enterprise deployments, typical block I/O does not trigger this condition unless direct access storage or device-managed memory is actively mapped. While improper segment coalescing could cause storage integrity issues or a kernel crash, confidentiality is unaffected and arbitrary code execution is not possible.
