Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's drm/amd/display component. This vulnerability arises from an out-of-bounds array access when an invalid eng_id value is used to index the stream_enc_regs array. A local attacker or a privileged process could exploit this memory corruption to potentially execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service on the affected system.

Statement

Red Hat rates this vulnerability as Moderate because exploitation requires local system access and is restricted to hosts utilizing AMD graphics processing units with Display Core Next (DCN) hardware, limiting the blast radius primarily to a denial of service. Standard enterprise server deployments operating headlessly or leveraging alternative display adapters do not initialize the affected display engine routines and remain unaffected. Because the flaw cannot be reached over the network and requires specialized hardware interaction, the overall risk to most enterprise environments is constrained.

CVSS score applicability

The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
