Description
A flaw was found in the NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Linux. A local user can exploit this vulnerability by providing crafted input that triggers a format string flaw. Successful exploitation may lead to arbitrary code execution, privilege escalation, a Denial of Service (DoS), or unauthorized disclosure of sensitive data.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important because an authenticated local attacker could leverage the flaw to gain elevated privileges, execute arbitrary code, or trigger a denial of service on the underlying system. Exploitation requires existing local shell or system access, but the potential for complete host compromise elevates the severity above Moderate. Systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux are only at risk if they are equipped with physical NVIDIA hardware and have the proprietary GPU display driver installed and active.
