Description
A flaw was found in the NVIDIA GPU display driver. The kernel mode layer fails to properly validate user-supplied memory pointers before dereferencing them. A local attacker with low privileges can exploit this issue by submitting a crafted pointer, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution with kernel-level privileges, privilege escalation, or a Denial of Service (DoS) via a system crash.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important because an authenticated local attacker could leverage improper pointer handling to execute code with elevated kernel privileges or compromise system availability. However, this flaw is restricted to the Windows-specific display driver architecture. Red Hat Enterprise Linux and other Red Hat offerings are not affected as the vulnerable kernel-mode component is not present in Linux environments.
