Description
A flaw was found in xorg-x11-drv-nvidia. A local user can trigger an invalid memory access (NULL pointer dereference) in the driver's kernel mode layer. A successful exploit could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with elevated system privileges, access sensitive information, or cause a denial of service (DoS) by crashing the system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as an Important impact because an authenticated local attacker could trigger a kernel-level NULL dereference to gain administrative privileges or cause a complete system crash, resulting in full compromise of system integrity and availability. Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases are not affected because the vulnerable code base is not present in supported products. Furthermore, proprietary NVIDIA display drivers are not deployed in standard installations and require explicit manual configuration alongside compatible hardware.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
